Mixed Americano in padel: rules and how to run it

The core rule: mixed teams, rotating partners

As in a classic Americano the partner changes every round and every point is scored individually — there are no fixed teams across the tournament.

The difference: pairings are formed so that each team has one woman and one man. That needs equal numbers of each, otherwise the maths does not work out.

Eight, twelve or sixteen participants are typical — four, six or eight per gender.

How to organise it in Racketmaster

For guaranteed mixed teams, use the fixed-pairs mode (Escalera): you compose the pairs yourself, one woman and one man each. The pairs then climb and drop the court ladder together.

If you want rotating partners as in a true Americano, pick Americano with a mixed field. Worth knowing: the rotation distributes partners by the circle method — it cannot force every team to be mixed. Some rounds will produce all-women or all-men teams.

Both are legitimate; it is a choice between guaranteed mixing (fixed pairs) and maximum variety (Americano).

Scoring and how it runs

Games run on a clock or to a fixed score. All courts start and finish together so the next round can begin as a group.

Scoring is individual: the team's points are credited to both players. Whoever collects the most points wins — often read separately as a women's and a men's standing.

Six to ten rounds is usual. Add a final round for the top places if you want one.
